PLEASE READ OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED SCENARIOS

SCENARIO QUESTION:  How long does it take to edit home video & about costs?
SCENARIO ANSWER: It can take from a few hours to a day or more.  We charge per project.  The project fee is quoted on how extensive the client wants us to edit their video footage.
SCENARIO EXAMPLE: Mr. Client wants a simple "cuts only" assemble style edit. (2 hours of the clients "Source Video") Mr. Client wants basic titling and background music that he provides.  Mr. Client conveys that he does not know how long the finished video should be.  He tells us to come up with a "Run Time". He wants 3 copies of the completed video.
SCENARIO EXPLAINED: Armed with information from client, we calculate the "Run Time" at approximately 20-30 minutes maximum.  This project will take at least one day to complete.  Even though he wants a "SIMPLE CUTS ONLY ASSEMBLE EDIT" video, we need to first  VIEW THE SOURCE VIDEO FOOTAGE that Mr. Client brought us. Then after viewing, we can figure the "Run Time".
That is minimum 2 - 21/2 hours right there.  Mr. Client wants "Basic Titling".  That will take about 15-20 minutes to create.  He gave us 2 music CD's for background music.  That will have to be auditioned, since the client wants us to choose the songs appropriate for the video footage.  Add on at least 1 hour to "skirt through" (rather quickly) the songs on both CD's.  Nearly ready for edit we have to "DUB THE 2 HOURS OF VIDEO TAPE" on to our system for us to edit & create the finished DVD.
NOTE: Assemble editing is synonymous with video tape machines.  We do not use video tape for the final edit.  The term "ASSEMBLE EDIT" is used to convey that scenes or shots are "assembled one at a time" in sequential order.
Now we "Assemble Edit" the footage.  That will take about 1 1/2 - 2 hours along with the basic titles.  We also have to lay down a background audio track and add the music.  Approximately 1/2 - 1 hour.  Finally we are not using a DVD Menu & Chapters, but we still need to "Encode" or render the edited footage (called Edit Master) to be viewable on a DVD another 1/2 - 1 hour.
Mr. Client wants 3 finished DVD's. That can be done when we burn the master "Run Time" which is now 25 minutes.  The video must be checked for quality control.  We must be pleased with the finished DVD.  Barring no major problems we have a fictitious listing of how long our "Scenario" took.
1. Meeting Mr. Client & put together a EDL or "Edit Decision List":  30 MINUTES
2. View the source footage: 120 MINUTES
3. Figure "Run Time":  15 MINUTES
4. Create basic Titles:  20 MINUTES
5. Audition Music CD's & match appropriate songs to video:  60 - 80 MINUTES
6. Dub source tapes to computer to get ready for editing: 120 MINUTES
7. Assemble Edit & create background music track (no ambient audio adjusting)
then encode Edit Master:  240 MINUTES
8. We view entire Edit Master for quality control: 25 MINUTES
9. Burn finished show on 3 DVD's: 30 MINUTES

TOTAL PER MINUTES TO HOURS: 680 MINUTES or 11.3 HOURS FOR FINISHED SHOW. Billed @ a very modest, low low hourly rate of $35.00 per hour... $396.00 for a Cuts Only (No transitions/effects/narration/sound effects). Then add $50.00 for 3 DVD's & cases (no artwork, no inserts).  THE TOTAL FEE CAN NOW BE TALLIED... $446.00 FOR FINISHED PROJECT.
